How A Baby Registry Works At Target
First, let’s go over what exactly a baby registry is…
A baby registry (just like any other gift registry) is a system for letting your friends and family know exactly which items you most want and need ahead of your baby shower and the birth of your little one. By using a registry, you can add specific items to a list that others can view and shop from directly either in store or online. Using your registry, your friends and family can shop with confidence, knowing that they’re buying you exactly what you want and need.
Most people set up their baby registries around the end of the first trimester (about three months into your pregnancy). At this time, many people may choose to find out the gender of their child which could end up informing the types of gifts they choose to receive. If you don’t plan on finding out the gender of your child during your pregnancy, you can set up your registry at any time.
To begin setting up your Target Baby Registry, click here. You can also use the same link to search for an existing registry of a friend or family member. After you activate your registry, it will stay active in your account for 18 months and remain searchable by friends and family for one year.
Benefits Of Using A Target Baby Registry
Get exactly what you want and need
Your friends and family won’t have to guess at what you’re needing most ahead of the arrival of your little one. With a gift registry, you can be upfront about your needs and your friends and family can shop for you with confidence.
Reduce the risk of duplicate gifts
Target’s registry has a built-in system to reduce the risk of duplicate gifts. When people purchase anything from your registry, they have the option of scanning both the registry barcode and the barcode for the item they’re purchasing at checkout. This will mark the item as “purchased” on your registry page, letting other shoppers know to choose something else. Any items purchased directly through your registry online will be automatically marked as purchased.
Add items from multiple retailers with Target’s universal registry
Another bonus of using a Target baby registry is that you can add items from other retailers (not just Target). A universal registry takes a few extra steps to activate, but once it’s set up, you can add items from a wide range of retailers including Cost Plus World Market and Pottery Barn.
Return gifts with no stress for up to 1 year
Target has a generous return policy for their baby registries, allowing an extended return window of up to one year. So, if you end up with some duplicate gifts or anything you don’t want, you won’t need to worry. For a full look at Target’s baby registry return policy, check out our post about it here.
How To Receive a Registry Welcome Box
For all Target customers who sign up for a baby registry, Target offers a free welcome kit packed with $100 worth of items for you and your baby.

How To Use A Baby Registry
To set up a Target baby registry, start by visiting this link and clicking “Create a registry.” If you are not signed into your Target.com account, you will first be prompted to sign in or create an account.
Next, you’ll be taken to a page where you can enter your name as well as your partner’s name if applicable.
From there, Target will ask you a few questions about your baby’s expected arrival date, gender, and whether this is your first child. They also provide options for parents who are in the process of adopting a child.
Once you’ve entered all of your basic information, you will be taken to a page where you can begin adding items to your registry.
If you would like to convert your Target registry into a universal registry, you can add items from multiple retailers. To learn how to convert your Target baby registry into a universal registry, click here. Keep in mind that the universal registry tool is not supported on mobile browsers.
To access your Target baby registry through the Target app, click on the “bullseye” logo and scroll down to where it says “Registry.”
If you’re shopping for someone through a Target Baby Registry, you can even use Target Circle offers to save money on your purchases. When you’re logged into your account, any Target Circle offers that apply to your shopping cart will be automatically applied at checkout.
