Is It Worth Filling Out the Walmart Customer Receipt Survey?
If you’ve shopped at Walmart anytime in the past couple of months, you might recall receiving an invitation on your receipt to fill out a customer survey. If you’re anything like me, then you might have thought, “Eh… What’s the point?”
But I just discovered recently that there’s actually a major benefit to filling out these Walmart surveys, and I’m here to let you in on the secret!
During February, March, and April 2023, Walmart is hosting a sweepstakes through which customers can win a $100 or even a $1,000 Walmart gift card. That’s right! The only catch? You have to fill out that pesky survey on your receipt.
So, in short–yes! It’s absolutely worth filling out every Walmart receipt survey invitation you receive. The survey only takes a few minutes to complete, comes at no cost to the customer, and enters you to win up to $1,000 of free money.
Sweepstakes winners will be chosen after the sweepstakes period closes at the end of April 2023. Grand prize winners will be notified by May 6th, while first prize winners will be mailed their gift card directly no later than June 15th.
How Does the Walmart Sweepstakes Work?
Filling out a Walmart customer receipt survey enters you into something called the Walmart Sweepstakes, which features 755 prizes totaling $80,000 of total value.
Once the sweepstakes is complete and winners have been chosen, five individuals will be awarded a grand prize in the form of a $1,000 Walmart Gift Card. 750 individuals will be awarded first prizes in the form of a $100 Walmart Gift Card.
The 2023 Walmart Sweepstakes is currently active, running from January 28th through April 28th. You can read the full sweepstakes terms and conditions here, including information on how to enter.
Despite receipt surveys being the primary method of entry, there are actually four ways to enter the Walmart Sweepstakes…
- Make a purchase at any Walmart retail location and receive a sales receipt featuring a customer survey invite (not all receipts contain survey invitations), and then complete the survey here
- Make a purchase on Walmart.com or through the Walmart app and receive a Walmart Sweepstakes invitation via email, then complete the survey via the link provided in the email
- Fill out the Walmart Survey online here (no purchase required)
- Enter through the mail by sending a 3.5” x 5” (or 4.25” x 6”) postcard to…

PO Box 228
Macedon, NY

The postcard must clearly feature your full name, mailing address, phone number, and date of birth, plus sufficient postage (must be postmarked by April 28th, 2023).
Any legal resident of the US or Puerto Rico can enter the Walmart Sweepstakes as long as they are at least 18 years old. If you are under 18 and receive a Walmart survey invitation, talk to your parent or guardian to discuss entering the sweepstakes together.
Sweepstakes prizes are limited to one per household.
Why Does Walmart Host The Sweepstakes?
At this point, you might be asking yourself why Walmart would bother hosting a promotion that basically involves them just giving away $80,000 to their customers.
Well, it actually makes more sense than you might think.
The Walmart survey is designed to gather information from customers regarding their experiences and satisfaction shopping at Walmart. These survey results help Walmart immensely to tailor and improve the experience they provide to their customers, which ultimately helps them secure and even increase profits.
If Walmart were to fund a customer survey through which they had to pay for the kind of information they acquire from sweepstakes participants for free, they would likely have to pour a lot more than $80,000 into the project.
So, in other words, the Walmart Sweepstakes actually saves Walmart money when it comes to receiving crucial customer feedback to help them maintain and build their business.
How To Take A Walmart Receipt Survey
If you have a Walmart sales receipt with a survey code (labeled as ID # or ST #), visit this link to begin your survey. You will need to enter a valid ID # and ST # to qualify, which can be found on your receipt, as pictured below…
If you don’t have a Walmart receipt with a survey offer but would still like to offer your feedback, click here.
Walmart’s customer surveys are hosted by a platform called Medallia. If you have any issues accessing your Walmart survey, check out the Medallia Survey Support page here.
What Are The Survey Questions?
The Walmart Sweepstakes survey will ask you about the following topics…
- The location of your “home” Walmart store (city and state)
- How likely you are to recommend your local Walmart to others
- How satisfied you were with your most recent visit to Walmart
You will also be asked about your satisfaction level with your local Walmart’s…
- Employees
- Product prices
- Checkout experience
- Product quality
- Store appearance
- Product availability
- Convenience
Next, you will be asked how long it took you to complete your most recent checkout experience at Walmart and whether or not you were able to find everything you needed during your trip.
Midway through the survey, you will be asked if you have time to continue providing more feedback. While the survey technically gives you the option of saying “no,” it doesn’t seem like customers who exit the survey at this point will be entered into the sweepstakes. To guarantee that you’ve been entered, click “yes” when asked if you would like to continue, and finish filling out the entire survey. At the very end, you will be asked for your name and contact information which Walmart will use to reach out to you if you are chosen as a grand prize winner.
If you opt to complete the additional questions, you will be asked about…
- Restroom cleanliness (optional for those who have not used the restroom at Walmart)
- Aisle cleanliness and organization
- Whether you have immediate family members who work for Walmart
Finally, you will be asked to enter your name, contact information, and mailing address. You will also be asked whether or not you consent to being contacted by Walmart with further questions. You do not need to consent to being contacted with more questions to qualify for sweepstakes entry.
Tips For Avoiding Email Scams
Because Walmart contacts sweepstakes winners via email and over the phone, this unfortunately creates opportunities for scammers to victimize Walmart shoppers.
Remember that according to the Walmart Sweepstakes terms and conditions first prize winners ($100 gift card winners) will not be contacted by Walmart prior to receiving their gift card in the mail. So, if you receive a call or email claiming that you’ve won a $100 Walmart gift card and requesting any personal information to claim it, you can be sure this is a scam. Because you are asked to provide your mailing address at the time of entry, Walmart will not need to contact you for any further information prior to sending you your prize.
If you are a grand prize winner, remember that only five individuals total are chosen for this prize. So, unfortunately, the chances that you will be contacted with a prize notification are limited.
However, if you are a grand prize winner, you will be contacted by Walmart directly via email and/or phone. At this time, the only things you will be required to do are a) accept the prize offer within five days of notification and b) sign an affidavit provided by Walmart within 10 days of notification. You will not be asked to provide any sensitive information besides your mailing address.
If you are asked for your Walmart account information, credit card or bank information, SSN, or any other significant sensitive information, end the interaction immediately and report your experience to Walmart via the instructions provided below.
What To Do If You Fall Victim To A Scam
According to Walmart, they will never ask you for account numbers, credit card information, or Social Security numbers via email. If you receive an email or phone call that claims to come from Walmart and asks for this information, end the interaction and report the experience immediately.
To report your experience, forward the email or send a description of what happened to Walmart directly at inapprop@walmart.com. You can also report your experience to Homeland Security if you wish by emailing phishing-report@us-cert.gov.
Finally, if you believe you have fallen victim to a phishing scam, report it to the Federal Trade Commission here.
